Because library materials are under copyright and not openly licensed, they are not "open educational resources." However, they can be used to replace other course materials at no cost to students.
When adopting library materials for z-courses, be sure you are using a permalink to the material. This is a stable URL that will prompt students to log in and then bring them to the resource. Work with your liaison librarian if you are unsure how to find a permalink for a resource.
Online news and magazine publications that you may want to incorporate in your classes may limit the number of free articles students can access without a subscription. Many of these publications are also available in the library databases, which students can access for free, 24/7. You can provide students with permalinks to these articles and students can print them for use in hard copy.
