Hi! My name is Megan Dempsey and I've been the Instructional Services Librarian at the Evelyn S. Field Library since 2007. Currently, I am the library liaison to the Business & Public Service department including the Paralegal Studies program, the English department, Science & Engineering department, and the RVCC Honors College. I teach INFO 101 Information Seeking in Today's World, a 1-credit information literacy course.
I am often found in the library classroom teaching information literacy sessions, especially for English Composition I and II. I enjoy helping students think through your research topics and develop your ideas into meaningful questions that you are curious to learn more about. My own interests are wide ranging, which is why I became I librarian, and I love learning about new topics, issues, and concerns from students! Together we can explore your curiosities and find reliable information that will hopefully inspire your lifelong learning journey.
My research interests more specifically are information literacy and open educational resources. An achievement I am most proud of is working with the RVCC Foundation to bring in more than $130,000 in grant funding for faculty to adopt open educational resources in their classes instead of requiring expensive, commercial textbooks. You can learn more abou this on the Open Educational Resources guide, and you can search for "No cost" courses when you are registering for classes through EduNav.
I am available for one-on-one research consultations on Zoom on Mondays and on Zoom or in person Tuesday through Friday. Evening appointments on zoom can be scheduled in advanced; please send me an email with the day and time you are looking for.
