New Jersey History Research Guide

A Concentration on New Jersey Resources

New Jersey History and World War II Research

Battleship New Jersey being transported in 1948

The U.S. Navy battleship New Jersey (BB-62) is seen in early 1948 being moved from the New York Navy Yard to the New York Group, Atlantic Reserve Fleet based at Bayonne, New Jersey. The ship was inactivated at New York Navy Yard, beginning on 18 October 1947 and was formally decommissioned at Bayonne on 30 June 1948.

The contents of this research guide are the result of two sabbaticals awarded to Professor Robert Egan, Technical Services Librarian. Professor Egan researched the role of New Jersey in World War II and then expanded his research to include other areas of New Jersey history, including its early inhabitants, infrastructure, involvement in other wars, and NJ in modern times.

Each topic area in the guide contains a list of print and electronic resources related to the topic. Some of the materials are available for loan from the Evelyn S. Field Library. Others can be borrowed from public libraries or through Interlibrary Loan. Electronic materials from RVCC Library databases can be accessed from off-campus with a G# and password (students and employees only).

Downloadable versions of Professor Egan's research guides are available below.
