It's Easy to Chat with a Librarian!
Have you ever been in the middle of your research and not finding the articles you thought existed?  Not sure how to focus on scholarly articles?  Wonder where to find the SocIndex database?  Have you wondered how to create in-text citations?  Chat with a librarian to help you get answers to these and many other questions!

It is easy and painless :)  Just click on the Live Chat button on the Library website.  A librarian will immediately reply and will try to help you with your research, citations or just answer questions such as how do I contact Academic Support or where can I locate my unofficial transcript?

Here is what a typical chat looks like, typos and all!

Student's Initial Question
Good afternoon, Do you have any articles on gender roles, related to in the household or workplace?
Librarian: Sure, I can help you with that.
Student: Thanks
Librarian: Do they need to be from a particluar source?
Student: Not really, just directed to a general audience
Librarian: OK, so not a scholarly journal article.
Librarian: Let me check for you...
Librarian: What class is this for?
Student: ill take research papers but I don’t want to be too based on data
Student: english comp 1
Librarian: Got it.  Then we should be looking in our research starter databases for news and magazine articles.
Student: ok
Librarian: Be with you in a second
Student: No prob
Librarian: I searched in one of our Research Starters and found quite a bit.  Have you heard about the Research Starters yet in your Eng 1 class?
Librarian: Here is the link to my results just looking up gender roles workplace:
Librarian: Results Link
Student: I think I used it as well and was flooded with information
Librarian: Hmm, lets try to narrow down your results with some keywords.
Student: ok I’ll wade through this. Where would I find a scholars journal article?
Librarian: Do you have an argument that you are trying to make in your essay
Student: i’d like to compare an article, perhaps reference one
Student: none yet
Librarian: When you search in the Research Starters that have "... in Context" in the title, you will see Academic Journals as one of the source typyes
Librarian: These are the scholarly journals
Student: i see it now! Thanks a mill
Librarian: Is there anything else I can help you with?
Student: stay healthy!
Librarian: You as well!

Notice that many of the typos are from the librarian!  Don't worry about your spelling or grammar!  Also, the librarian will ask you questions to learn more about what you need in order to get you the best information.  Often, we will ask what class you are in or what the assignment is.  We may rephrase your question to get more focused results and explain where to search and suggest search terms or keywords to search with.  We will also share links with you so that you can access a list of results or see what we are discussing with you.

If a librarian is not available, the 'Live chat' button will instead say 'Email a librarian' and a librarian will get back to you within 24 hours.

View Your Check Out History
Cartoon drawing of multiple books on shelf in a cloud bubble outline
You can now view your borrowing history in your Library account.   By default, libraries do not track patrons' borrowing history.  However, some library users find it helpful to view their previous reads.  You can activate this feature yourself in your Library Account.  To do this, access "My Library Account" from either the Library homepage’s top menu,

or in the Books, eBooks & Media Catalog where it says "Sign in".

Once you access your Library Account, go to the Profile tab, or choose Profile from the dropdown menu under your name. Then, turn on the toggle for “Borrowing history” (it is off by default). From that point forward, you will be able to view 2 years’ worth of borrowing history.  Unfortunately, you cannot view any check-outs from before you enabled the feature.

Does This Look Familiar?
Tables and chairs
Looking for a completely quiet place to study?   This section of the Library on the second floor is all the way at the end of the library stacks and is designated for silent study.

Didn't know there was a second floor?  Wondered where most of the print book collection is shelved, how to get to the group study rooms, or where the silent study section of the Library is located?  The stairs and elevator to the second floor are by the LCD screen on your right as you enter the Library.  Come in and head upstairs to check it out!

Here are the results of past polls asking who will win the Super Bowl and who your favorite musical group is. Last week's question: which social media platform you can't live without?  Interestingly, we only had TikTok and Instagram.  Reddit and Facebook were added by students as well as not using any of the listed social media platforms.

This week's question: What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
