How to use this guide

This research guide is designed to help you find outside sources for Speech class. The gray tabs will take you to pages with information on different parts of the research process. You can also use the Next and Previous buttons at the bottoms of the pages to move between them.

Your assignment

Informative Speech: To convey information with the goal of broadening your audience’s understanding of your topic.  

4-5 minute speech

Use 3 outside sources minimum. Traditional sources or others specific to the topic, including interviews.

These can be:

  • scholarly journal articles
  • reputable magazine and/or newspaper articles
  • trustworthy and high-level organizational websites
  • various forms of media (video, audio, etc.)
  • books
  • you may include interviews

You must provide works cited using MLA Format

  • Determine where to look for resources based on your research needs
  • Find and evaluate appropriate web and library sources for inclusion in a speech
  • Understand citing sources integrated into a speech and written MLA citations
