Borrowing Privileges

Borrowing - Faculty / Staff / Administrators

All faculty, staff and administrators have borrowing privileges at the Evelyn. S. Field Library, the Somerset County Library System, the Hunterdon County Library, and select NJ college and university libraries.

The RVCC College ID card serves as the RVCC library card and is required when checking out items from the Evelyn S. Field Library. This card must be presented to checkout library materials to ensure prompt and accurate service. Only the owner of the card will be allowed to make library transactions.

Separate library cards must be acquired to borrow items from the Somerset or Hunterdon county library systems.  For more information on getting a Somerset or Hunterdon Public Library Card, please use the links below.

The VALE Reciprocal Borrowing program lets you borrow materials from participating New Jersey college and university libraries. See the section on VALE Reciprocal Borrowing Program for more information.

Interlibrary Loan Materials

Faculty, staff and administrators may borrow books and request articles from other libraries through the free-of-charge Interlibrary Loan Service.  Visit the Library’s Interlibrary Loan page for complete details.

Allow at least two (2) weeks for delivery of material. Requests are limited to five (5) items a day. Requested material follows the borrowing policies of the lending library. To renew Interlibrary Loan material, contact the Interlibrary Loan Desk (908) 526-1200 x8224 five (5) days before the material is due.

Overdue Charges

Faculty, staff and administrators do not pay library fines when materials are returned late, unless it is Interlibrary Loan material. However, if materials are three (3) months or more overdue, and/or the employee has a fine for Interlibrary Loan material, the library may suspend borrowing privileges.

Periodicals and Reference Books

Faculty, staff and administrators may checkout periodicals for seven (7) days. The periodical collection is located behind the Check Out Desk or on display in the Reading Lounge. To obtain a periodical, make a request at the Check Out Desk.

Reference books may be available for checkout upon request.

VALE Reciprocal Borrowing Program

Faculty, staff and students who are in good standing at the RVCC Library qualify for this borrowing option. How do I sign up?

  2. A library staff member will sign your completed form, indicating that you are a current patron in good standing.
  3. Take the signed form to the library you plan to visit, along with your RVCC ID card.
  4. You will be issued guest borrowing privileges and/or a card at the library you visit, which will be valid for one academic year with an expiration date of June 30.
  5. You are responsible for returning materials to the library from which they were borrowed.
  6. Contact Chad Peters at (908) 526-1200 x8224 with any further questions.
